Build sheets and charts
You describe the result; ancoreMind does the clicks. It builds and changes sheets and charts in the app you have open – with the same building blocks as the Qlik sheet editor and with the master items the app already has.
On this page you learn:
- how to build a sheet with its charts in one sentence,
- which charts and other objects ancoreMind creates,
- how to put several objects together in one layout.
How it works
Describe the sheet as you would to a colleague – or attach a blueprint: a concept as PDF, Word or Excel, a photo of a sketch, a mockup or a screenshot. ancoreMind creates the objects, places them so the sheet stays on one screen and tells you what it did.
"Create a sheet 'Q4 cockpit' with KPIs for Sales, Margin % and Orders, a bar chart of sales by region and a line chart of sales by month" – and a second sentence for the number formats and the sort order.
Then keep shaping it in your own words:
- Turn the pie chart into a bar chart.
- Sort the bar chart descending by revenue.
- Move the line chart to the sheet Products.
Numbers, the look and changes across many objects have their own pages: Calculations and master items, Design and style templates and Change many objects at once.
Details
Sheets
- Duplicate the sheet Overview and call it "Overview 2025".
- Give this sheet a description that explains what it shows.
- Make this sheet scroll – I need twice the height.
ancoreMind creates, renames, duplicates, moves, opens and deletes sheets, and sets their description, grid spacing (wide, medium, narrow) and height.
Charts
- Add a KPI for revenue and one for margin at the top of this sheet.
- Arrange the charts on this sheet in two rows.
- Copy the three KPIs to the sheet Overview.
- Create one or several charts in one go. If the sheet has no room, ancoreMind asks whether it may rearrange it.
- Change chart type, dimensions, measures, titles and sort order. The chart keeps its place and its master items stay linked – also when you change the type back.
- Move, resize, copy – half as wide means half of the chart's own width. A chart moved to a new sheet names the sheet and opens it.
- Find a chart by words in its title, dimensions, measures or sheet. The line chart means the one on the open sheet; if there are two, ancoreMind asks which one.
- Delete – after your confirmation.
What ancoreMind creates
| Object | Ask for example | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Charts | Create a line chart with revenue by month, one line per region. | Bar, line, combo, pie and donut, KPI, gauge, scatter plot, treemap, box plot, distribution plot, waterfall, table and pivot table – plus funnel, grid chart, Mekko, Sankey, radar and word cloud from the Qlik visualization bundle. In Qlik Cloud a new table is a straight table; ask for a classic table if you want the old one. |
| Waterfall | Build a waterfall chart: revenue minus costs gives the margin. | Revenue goes up, costs go down, the margin is a subtotal. |
| Bars with an area | Revenue as bars and margin as an area. | Qlik no longer offers this chart, so ancoreMind builds a combo chart with the second measure as a line on its own axis and tells you so. |
| Maps | A map of sales by country. · A map with points per country, sized by sales. | Needs place names Qlik knows, such as countries or cities. For your own regions, for example DACH, ancoreMind offers a map by country. To switch from areas to points, ask for a new map. |
| Filter pane | Add filters for region and year to this sheet. · Take Region out of the filter. | Uses master dimensions where they exist; a list that is already there is not added twice. |
| Date picker | A date picker for the order date. | A calendar with ranges. If the sheet already has one, ancoreMind names it instead of adding a second. |
| Buttons | A button that goes to the sheet Products. · A button that clears all selections. | A Qlik button with exactly that action, working in analysis mode. |
| Layout container | A layout with a bar chart of sales by region and the sales KPI above it. | Several objects held together, also a figure on top of a chart – see Layouts. |
| Variable input | A slider for the target margin. · Buttons to switch the variable vScenario between Plan and Actual. | Qlik's variable input – slider, buttons, drop-down or input box. If the variable does not exist yet, ancoreMind creates it. |
| Not yet | Navigation menus, containers with tabs | ancoreMind tells you when you ask. Existing objects of these types can still be changed or deleted by name. |
A new Sankey chart or word cloud may need more space before it shows all names – just make it larger.
Layouts and figures on top of a chart
Ask for a layout – or for a key figure on top of a chart – and ancoreMind builds one Qlik layout container that holds the objects together:
- A layout with the sales KPI on the left and a bar chart of sales by region next to it on the right.
- Line chart of sales by month with the total in the top right corner on top of it.
- Move the KPI in the layout to the bottom left.
- Put the sales KPI and the bar chart into one layout container.
- Above, below, next to each other – placed as you describe. Objects that are already on the sheet can go into a container, too.
- A figure on top of a chart: the chart fills the container and the KPI sits in the corner you named – at least about half the width and height, so it stays readable. Afterwards ancoreMind offers to make the KPI transparent and borderless, so both read as one chart.
- Changes inside the container happen in place, nothing is rebuilt. You can also move objects by hand in Qlik's edit mode.
- In ancoreShare reports, a layout container is printed as one object.
Any other setting
Data labels, axis ranges, color by dimension, totals, number formats – ancoreMind reads and sets any property of a Qlik object:
- Show data labels in the bar chart.
- Start the y-axis of the line chart at 0.
- Color the bars by region.
If Qlik does not offer a setting for a chart – for example coloring by dimension in a bar chart with two measures – ancoreMind tells you instead of pretending it worked.
Good to know
- Check the result. ancoreMind describes sizes and positions in words, for example half the width, in the right half, and quotes a KPI as the tile shows it, for example Qlik shows 3.25M. If something is not right, say so – or ask to change it back.
- Deleting a sheet, chart, report, master item or variable always needs your confirmation.
- Load scripts are not changed by ancoreMind.
- Logos and images: a picture you attach in the chat does not go into the app. Upload it to Qlik's media library first.
