Calculations and master items

Say what the number should show – ancoreMind writes the Qlik expression. Set analysis, shares, Top N and relative periods no longer need a formula editor, and the app's master items stay the single source of truth.

Ask ancoreMind …→

On this page you learn:

  • how to get calculations such as shares, fixed filters and relative periods in your own words,
  • how ancoreMind creates and changes master dimensions, master measures and drill-downs,
  • how to manage variables.

How it works

Ask for the figure in plain language, in a new chart or in one that is already on the sheet. ancoreMind writes the expression, uses the app's master measures where they fit and keeps their number formats.

  • Sales per region and its share of total sales.
  • Sales of all regions except DACH and Nordics.
  • Top 3 products, the rest as "Others".
  • Create a master measure "Margin %" as Sum(Margin) / Sum(Revenue), formatted as percent.

You see the result in Qlik's own properties – the expression, the set analysis and the master item – so you can check it and change it later yourself.

Before you rename or delete

Ask Where is the master measure Margin used? first. ancoreMind lists every sheet and chart that depends on it. See Where used.

Details

Calculations in your words

  • Sales per region and its share of total sales.
  • Sales of East that does not change when I select another region.
  • Sales of all regions except DACH and Nordics.
  • Sales of customers with more than 110,000 in sales.
  • Sales of customers who bought the Rain Shell.
  • Sales of customers who never bought the Rain Shell.
  • Top 3 products, the rest as "Others".
  • Add a running total and the change to the previous month to the table.
  • Add an average line and a linear trend line to the line chart.
  • Shares are formatted as percent, and master measures keep their own format – a KPI on a master measure in euros shows euros. If you change the format of the master measure later, the KPIs ancoreMind built on it follow.
  • Relative periods such as sales of the last 3 months or sales year to date are counted back from today. If your data has no values for that period, ancoreMind says so. The % change to the previous month follows your selections in Qlik Cloud.
  • Last month is the calendar month before today, and the answer names it. A KPI for revenue last month moves on by itself every month. If your data has no values for that month, ancoreMind says so and names the period your data covers.

Master items

  • Create a master measure "Margin %" as Sum(Margin) / Sum(Revenue), formatted as percent.
  • Make master dimensions for Region, Country and Category.
  • Change the label of the master measure Revenue to "Net revenue".
  • Make the bar chart on this sheet a master visualization.
  • Place the master visualization "Revenue trend" on the sheet Overview.
  • Create a drill-down from Region to Country to Customer.
  • Take Customer out of the drill-down.

ancoreMind can create, change and delete master dimensions – also drill-down and cyclic groups – master measures and master visualizations, place master visualizations on sheets, and unlink an object from its master visualization. New charts use the app's master measures where they match.

Variables

  • Create a variable vTargetYear with the value 2026.
  • Which variables does this app have, and what are they used for?
  • Change vTargetYear to 2027.

ancoreMind can list, create, change and delete variables. Deleting a master item or a variable always needs your confirmation.
