Design and style templates

Say how it should look – or show ancoreMind a picture. Themes, colors, fonts and KPI tiles change in one sentence, a screenshot of any chart becomes your style, and a style template gives other charts the same look with one click.

On this page you learn:

  • how to change the design of charts, KPIs and the whole app,
  • how to copy the look of a screenshot,
  • how to keep a look as a style template and apply it to other charts.

How it works

There are three ways to the look you want:

  1. Say it. Give all KPIs on this sheet a light blue background. ancoreMind sets Qlik's own properties, so you can see and change them in Qlik.
  2. Show it. Paste a screenshot of a chart you like and ask for your chart in that style – a new one, or charts that are already on the sheet. The answer names anything it could not match.
  3. Reuse it. Keep a look as a style template and apply it to other charts.

Rules that should apply every time – your colors, number formats and fonts – belong in the Rulebook. ancoreMind then follows them in every chart it builds in the Workspace.

Details

Design

  • Switch the app to the theme Sense Horizon.
  • Give all KPIs on this sheet a light blue background.
  • Use the same colors and fonts in the line chart as in the bar chart.
  • Copy the column formats of the left table to the right one.
  • Make the bars red where the margin is under 30 %.
  • Color the bar chart with the colors from the library.
  • The number in the revenue KPI is too big.
  • Make the number in the KPI bigger.
  • Make the flows in the Sankey chart orange.
  • Tidy up the texts in the KPIs on this sheet.

ancoreMind can switch the app theme (built-in or uploaded themes), style single objects and sheets, and transfer the design, the dimensions or the measures of one object to another.

  • Colors by condition use Qlik's own Colors › Custom › By expression, so you can see and change the rule in Qlik. Colors from the library are the value colors of the app's master dimension, with a legend.
  • KPIs that ancoreMind creates always show their full value, also long currency amounts such as 3,249,352.08 €: they use Qlik's Responsive layout behavior, so the number scales with the tile – also when you resize it by hand. With Qlik's default, long values can be cut off in narrow tiles; for a KPI you built yourself, set Styling › Layout behavior › Responsive.
  • KPI number size: if a value looks too big or too small, say so – ancoreMind makes the number visibly smaller or bigger, and it stays fully shown. Tidy up the texts in the KPIs removes duplicate labels and leaves the numbers and the tiles as they are.

Copy a look from a screenshot

You see a style you like? Show it to ancoreMind. Take a screenshot of any chart – from a dashboard, a website, another BI tool – paste or attach it in the chat and say what you need:

  • Make me a line chart of sales by month in the style of this screenshot.
  • Give the bar chart on this sheet the style of this screenshot.
  • Make me a line chart of sales by month in the style of this screenshot, and keep the look as the style template "Dark cards".

ancoreMind builds the chart on the sheet you have open, from the real data of your app, and takes over the look of the picture: the card background, border and rounded corners, the colors of the title, the lines and the axis labels, the grid, and whether a legend is shown. It can also give a chart that is already on the sheet the look of the picture.

If you also ask to keep the look as a style template, you can give it to other charts right away – see Style templates.

Style templates

Found the look you like? Keep it as a style template and give it to other charts with one click. A template keeps the design, the appearance, the captions – for example a table's totals label – and the number formats. It never takes the data, the formulas or the titles.

Select Select Qlik objects – the button in the message box, left of +. Every object on the sheet gets a Select button with a menu ▾, and a bar on the sheet shows what you selected: Objects, N selected ▾, Apply style ▾, Save ▾, Consultant, Clear.

  1. Save the look. Select a chart you like and choose Save ▾ › Save as style template… – or Save as style template… in the menu ▾ of the chart. Give it a name and decide where it lives – in this conversation, or with Save in the Workspace for everyone. ancoreMind keeps it in the Style Templates folder of the Library and confirms where. You can save several selected charts as templates in one go. Saving again under the same name in the same place updates the template.
  2. Apply it. Select the charts that should get the look and choose Apply style ▾ and the template. The newest templates come first; with more than eight, Find a style… searches them. A single chart offers the same with Apply a style in its menu ▾. Or drag it: in the compact chat, open the Library with the button at the bottom right and drag the template from Style Templates onto a chart on the sheet.
  3. Changed your mind? After applying, a card in the chat shows how many objects got the look, with Restore – it puts them back exactly as they were.

You can also ask in the chat, for example Give these two charts the style "Alpenglow bars".

What a template carries:

  • Per column and measure, matched by position: the text alignment and the column widths of table and pivot columns, the indentation of a pivot, the line style of each measure in a line chart (thickness, dashes, curve, point size), and how many bars or points an axis shows.
  • KPIs: on a KPI that has its own color limits, the template's colors are used for those limits; the limits themselves stay as they are. A dark template makes the value and the label of a KPI light, so both stay readable.
  • Other chart types: a bar chart template gives a line chart its colors, for example. Settings that only fit the original chart type are left out, and templates made for another type are marked partly.
