Rulebook

Say it once – and every chart follows it. Money in € without decimals. Bar charts horizontal, sorted by value. Titles say what is shown and by what. In the Rulebook such rules become rules that ancoreMind follows whenever it builds or changes something – in every app of the Workspace, for everyone who works in it.

On this page you learn:

  • how to turn your style guide, your chat and your corrections into rules,
  • where a rule applies and which rule wins,
  • how to see which rules ancoreMind followed – and keep the Rulebook tidy.

How it works

Say a lasting wish in the chat – from now on, always, in this app – and ancoreMind saves it as a rule. Or let it read your design guide and propose the rules it finds. Open the Rulebook with Workspace › Rules – in the menu ☰ of the chat or on the left of the full view.

In your wordsA short statement, for example "Percentages with one decimal". Up to 500 characters.
An areaColors, Fonts, Number formats, Titles and names, Layout, Chart types, Measures and data, Reports or Behavior.
A placeThe whole Workspace, one Qlik app, or one conversation.
A sourceSaved from chat, Added manually or Copied from a rules file – with date and person, and a history of every change.

Rules apply to what ancoreMind builds or changes from now on. Existing objects stay as they are – to bring them in line, see Change many objects at once.

Five ways to add rules

Bring your style guide

In the Rulebook, select From a document… and choose the PDF – or attach it in the chat and write Take the rules from this file into the Rulebook. The document also goes into the Knowledge base of the Workspace.

After about half a minute, a card lists what ancoreMind found, for example 24 rules found in Alpenglow Dashboard Style Guide.pdf. Every rule shows its area and page, for example Colors · page 2, and can be rewritten in its box. Untick what should not become a rule, choose with Add to whether the rules apply to the Workspace, one App or This conversation, and select Add 24 rules. Nothing is saved before that, and rules already in the Rulebook are not added twice.

In the Rulebook, these rules name the document and page as their source and are marked New. Only the rules count – attaching a file with Use this file as our style guide creates no rules.

Say it in the chat

  • From now on, money in € without decimals.
  • In this app, always use the master measures Sales, Margin % and Orders.
  • Turn off the rule about horizontal bars.

ancoreMind recognizes a lasting wish and saves it at once. A one-time request such as make this title smaller does not become a rule. Under the answer a card shows Rule saved – or Rule changed with the old version, if the new rule replaces one on the same point – and where it applies, for example Applies for everyone in Alpenglow Outdoor. Switch the place with Applies to, remove the rule with Undo, or open it with Show in Rulebook.

Turn a message into a rule

An agreement or a correction in the conversation should become a rule? Open the Knowledge menu of the message and select Save as rule…. Shorten the text, choose the area and the place, and select Save. The Rulebook names the conversation as the source, for example From a message in “Q4 review”. Undo in the same dialog removes the rule again.

Add a rule yourself

In Workspace › Rules, select Add rule – members see Add conversation rule – write the rule in your own words, choose the area and where it applies.

Copy rules from another Workspace

Typical use: a consultant's own standards, copied into every new customer Workspace.

  1. In the Rulebook of the first Workspace, select Export…. ancoreMind saves the Workspace and app rules – not the conversation rules – to the Library as <Workspace> rules.rules.json.
  2. In the Rulebook of the other Workspace, select Import… and choose the file from its Library, or Upload from computer….
  3. Tick the rules you want and select Add rules.

Rules already in the Rulebook are skipped, and a rule that was turned off stays off. Importing is for Owners and Admins.

Where a rule applies

PlaceAppliesWho changes it
WorkspaceIn every app and conversation of the WorkspaceOwner and Admins
AppIn one Qlik app, on top of the Workspace rulesOwner and Admins
ConversationOnly in that conversationEveryone taking part in it

The narrower rule wins: a conversation rule wins over an app rule, an app rule over a Workspace rule. Members can read the Workspace and app rules; rules of a private conversation are visible only to the people taking part in it.

When ancoreMind builds something

Answers that created or changed objects show which rules they followed – for example 1 rule applied · 2 not applied ▾. A rule counts as Applied only when ancoreMind has read the changed object back from Qlik and it really follows the rule – not because the AI says so. The list also shows Not applied with the reason – for example because you asked for something else in this message – and Can’t apply yet for something Qlik does not offer here, such as a font a chart cannot use. The Rulebook marks such rules Can’t apply yet too, so you know which ones to handle yourself – for example through an app theme. Select a rule in the list to open it in the Rulebook.

Rules for how ancoreMind answers

Rules in the area Behavior shape the conversation itself – length, tone, what comes first:

  • From now on, answer in short, friendly sentences.
  • Always start with the key figure, then the explanation.
  • In this conversation, explain Qlik terms for people who are new to Qlik.

Keep the Rulebook tidy

The Rulebook groups the rules by place and by area; colors given as hex codes show a swatch. Search rules and the tabs All, Workspace, Apps and Conversations narrow the list.

  • The switch in each row turns a rule off and on. The header counts all rules and the ones that are on.
  • Edit… changes the text, the area, the status or the place. History… lists every change.
  • Delete rule… removes the rule for everyone, after you confirm. Objects already built with it stay as they are.

Rules that contradict each other are marked, and a banner offers Resolve… – until you choose, the newer rule applies.

Several rules at once: tick them, or use Select all for the rules under the current filter. The bar at the bottom offers Turn on, Turn off, Copy to…, Move to… and Delete…. With Copy to… or Move to…, a rule that started in one conversation becomes a rule for an app or the whole Workspace.
