Reading app data with selections
The connector ancoreMate App Data reads the content of an app the way a user sees it in Qlik Sense – including selections, bookmarks and section access.
Which action for which purpose
| You need | Action |
|---|---|
| One number, for example the sales of a region | Evaluate expression (any expression, such as Sum(Sales)) or Get measure value (a master measure) |
| The values of a field, for example all regions | List field values, optionally only the values possible with the given selections |
| The rows of an existing table or chart | Get table data |
| A table you define in the flow | Get table data for fields with dimensions and measures |
| Many rows (thousands or more) as a file | Export chart data (Excel) |
| A sheet, chart or report as file | Export sheet (PDF, PowerPoint), Export chart (PNG, PDF), Create report from template |
Selections
Most reading actions and all report actions take Selections: a list in which each entry has
- Field – the name of the field, for example
Region, and - Values – the values to select, for example
EuropeandAsia, or - Search – a search instead of values, for example
A*or>1000.
The selections apply only to this one action. They do not change the app for other users and are not kept for the next action.
Selections behave as in Qlik Sense: selecting a value that the other selections exclude replaces those selections. Every value must exist in the field – otherwise the action fails and names the missing values, so that a typo does not silently return the numbers of the whole company. The same applies to the field: an unknown field fails, and if its name looks like a typo, the message suggests the closest field name.
A value that differs from a value in the app only by case or by spaces at its ends selects that value of the app – as long as exactly one value matches. If several values match only by case, the action fails instead of guessing.
Bookmarks
Instead of or in addition to selections, give a Bookmark ID. For the reading actions the bookmark is applied first, then the selections. For report actions, use either a bookmark or selections.
If the bookmark does not exist in the app, the action fails and names it – it does not silently return the data without the bookmark.
Example: one report per region (bursting)
- List field values for the field
Region– the result is a list of the regions. - Apply to each (Power Automate) – n8n runs the next nodes once per item anyway.
- Export sheet with the selection Field
Region, Values = the current region. - Save the file in SharePoint or send it to the manager of the region.
Large results
- Get table data returns up to 1,000 rows by default and up to 100,000 rows with Limit.
- List actions return 100 entries by default and up to 5,000 with Limit.
- In n8n, every row becomes an item, which slows n8n down from about 10,000 rows. For large data, use Export chart data.
Rights
All values are read with the rights of the connected Qlik Cloud user. Section access applies: a user who may only see one region gets only the numbers of that region – also through ancoreMate.
Reports need Qlik Reporting
The report actions (Export sheet, Export chart, Export chart data, Create report from template) use the reporting service of Qlik Cloud and need Qlik Reporting in your Qlik Cloud subscription. They are long-running actions and return files.
